Karnataka batters Devdutt Padikkal and Karun Nair proved to be the side's star performers as they defeated Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The result saw Mumbai's run in the tournament come to an end while Karnataka moved to the semi-finals. Karnataka has now won seven out of their eight matches in the tournament.
Mumbai's average batting display
After being invited to bat first, Mumbai had a slow start as Mumbai's opening duo of Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ishan Mulchandani found it hard to tackle Karnataka's bowlers. The breakthrough eventually came in the 12th over when Mulchandani lost his wicket to Vidyadhar Patil. The latter would get the wicket of Musheer Khan in his very next over.
Vijay Kumar Vyshak soon joined in and dismissed Raghuvanshi for 20 before Hardik Tamore was sent back to the pavilion for just one run as Mumbai went down to 60/4 at one stage. They were in desperate need of a solid partnership and the duo of Siddhesh Lad and Shams Mulani delivered. The two brought some much-needed stability to the team's batting order through their 76-run stand. Both looked set on the crease, but Abhilash Shetty broke their partnership and clinched the wicket of Lad for 38 runs.

The wickets started to fall once again for Mumbai as both Suryansh Shedge and Tanush Kotian fell cheaply as well. A last-stitch partnership of 51 runs between Mulani and Sairaj Patil helped the team get to a respectable total. Mulani eventually fell for 86 while Patil remained unbeaten on 33 as Mumbai finished their 50 overs on 254/8.
In reply, Karnataka began on a decent note with Padikkal smacking opposing bowlers around the park. Though skipper Mayank Agarwal lost his wicket for only 12 runs in the tenth over, next batter Karun Nair settled the ship for the team. He formed a massive 143-run stand with Padikkal as Karnataka started to cruise towards the target.
Match got decided through VJD method
Karnataka were 187/1 after 33 with overs with Padikkal on 81 and Nair on 72 when the game got stopped due to bad light. Rain came in soon after as the match got further delayed. Unfortunately for Mumbai, the game never resumed and Karnataka were handed the win according to the VJD method which is India's own alternative to the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method.
