Senior Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a standout performance for Northamptonshire, claiming five wickets for 45 runs in their Division Two match against Derbyshire in the English County Championship. Chahal's exceptional spell played a crucial role in restricting Derbyshire's batting lineup and significantly contributed to Northamptonshire's efforts in the match.

 

During the match, the Indian white-ball specialist also achieved a personal milestone by claiming his 100th first-class wicket. This notable accomplishment came with his third five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

 

The English summer has been highly rewarding for the wiry leg-break bowler, who previously delivered a standout performance with a five-wicket haul of 5/14 against Kent in the One Day Cup last month.

In the ongoing match, Northamptonshire batted first and posted a total of 219 in their first innings, with Saif Zib contributing a solid 90 runs. In response, Yuzvendra Chahal's impressive bowling performance of 5/45 from 16.3 overs, combined with Rob Keogh's 3/65, led to Derbyshire being dismissed for 165 in 61.3 overs.

Chahal's victims were Wayne Madsen, Aneurin Donald, Zak Chappell, Alex Thomson and Jack Morley.

 

Yuzvendra Chahal last outing for India

 

Yuzvendra Chahal was the part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad but he was benched for the whole tournament as India were playing with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav throughout the tournament. He last played a match for India in August 13, 2023 during in the T20I match against West Indies at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground. 

 

Prithvi Shaw failed to make impact

 

Apart from Chahal, Prithvi Shaw was flopped. Along with Chahal, Shaw was also playing for Northamptonshire but unable anything special in batting. Shaw has failed to get past 50 in his previous three first class innings also. The opener batter was out after scoring just 4 runs. At the same time, he scored 2 runs in the second innings. The former Under 19 captain made his Test debut against West Indies in Rajkot.
