Australia gunned down West Indies by 34 runs in the 2nd T20I to pocket series 2-0.

Glenn Maxwell hammered a brilliant century in Australia's stunning win.

Australia secured an unassailable 2-0 lead against West Indies in the three-match T20I series on Sunday. The Aussies dominated the Caribbean side in the 2nd T20I encounter, propelled by a spectacular century from Glenn Maxwell. Opting to bat first, Australia posted a formidable total of 241 runs. However, West Indies fell short in their chase, managing only 207/9.

How the match unfolded?

Having lost the first T20I, West Indies won the toss in the second match and elected to field. Australia capitalised on the opportunity to set a commanding total. Opening with David Warner, Australia got off to a fiery start, but it was Maxwell's magnificent century that stole the show.

Maxwell mayhem

Maxwell's sensational innings of 120 runs off 55 balls, embellished with 12 fours and 8 sixes, powered Australia's total past 200. Despite Jason Holder taking two wickets, most West Indies bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught.

Notably, last month, the power-hitting Australia's all-rounder found himself embroiled in controversy after being hospitalised following a social outing at a golf club with teammates and cricket icons. This incident raised additional concerns regarding the World Cup champion's association with alcohol.

In pursuit of the challenging target, West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals. While opener Johnson Charles showed promise with a quickfire 24, other batsmen failed to sustain the required momentum. Andre Russell's late burst, scoring 37 off 16 balls, provided some hope, but it wasn't enough. Captain Rovman Powell's valiant 63 off 36 balls went in vain as West Indies fell short, losing both the match and the series by a significant margin.
