Shubman Gill hailed his team for a magnificent all-round display against West Indies in 1st Test

India defeated West Indies by an innings and 140 runs

India decimated West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series and recorded a thumping victory by an innings and 140 runs. It was a completely one-sided affair as the Men in Blue gave a brilliant all-round display and were by far the better team in both the batting and bowling fronts. This victory saw India remain at the third place on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, but improved their PCT to 55.56.

Following the dominant victory, India captain Shubman Gill hailed the side and added that it was a 'perfect' match for them. H e highlighted how the team did well in all departments during the game and added that he doesn't have any complaints with their performance.

“Honestly, I think this was a perfect game for us. Three centurions in the game, and I think we fielded really well in both innings. So, honestly, I don't really have any complaints,” Gill said at the post-match presentation.

“Yeah, definitely. Whenever you get a start—on a wicket like this, which was pretty good to bat on—you want to convert. We both got starts but couldn’t carry on, but plenty of others did. So, happy for them," he added.

Indian bowlers' top performance

India ended up bundling out the Windies for 162 and 146 in their first and second innings respectively. The Men in Blue went into the match with a total of six bowling options in their playing XI. Gill highlighted that it is quite a difficult task to manage a bowling attack that is so diverse, but added that it is good to have multiple options.

"As a skipper, it is always a challenge to manage so many options, deciding who to give the ball to. But I think it’s always better to have too many choices rather than too few. That’s the challenge and also the fun of playing in India—there will always be someone ready to get the job done,” Gill stated.

When will the second Test begin?

Gill & Co. will be hoping to seal the series when they come up against West Indies in the second and final Test that is set to be played at the Arun Jaitley stadium from October 10.
