Rohit Sharma will start his stint as the permanent captain of the Indian team in ODIs against West Indies on February 6 (Sunday), in Ahmedabad as Indian team are set to play three ODIs and three T20Is against West Indies.

Previously, Rohit started his tenure as the permanent captain of the T20I team against New Zealand in India, as the hosts had secured the series pretty comfortably with a 3-0 victory, back in November, 2021.

Patel speaks

In a situation like this Indian pacer Harshal Pates has opened up on the leadership qualities of Rohit. It is important to mention that, Harshal had made his T20I debut against New Zealand under the captaincy of Rohit and the 31-year-old pacer is now also a part of the Indian side that will take on West Indies in the upcoming series.

According to Harshal, if skipper Rohit trusts a bowler then he will just give the ball to him and will not tell the bowler about what has to be done. Harshal also pointed out that he enjoys “playing under those kinds of captains.”

“He [Rohit Sharma] will basically give you the ball and if he has confidence in you, he will not tell you about what to do. ‘You know what to do, just go and do it’. So, he is that kind of a captain and I really enjoy playing under those kinds of captains,” said Harshal Patel while talking on Star Sports.

'Relaxed’ skipper

“I have my plans- Plan A, B, C so even when I get hit, I know what to do. I don’t like a lot of outside input and he fits exactly into that kind of personality as a captain. He is very relaxed and he gives you the freedom”, the Gujarat-born cricketer added.

While talking about coach, Rahul Dravid, the right-arm pacer disclosed one particular suggestion that he had got from coach Dravid.

“He told me, ‘We know that you are a very confident bowler. We know that what you want to do, what you can do and cannot do. I just want you to go out there, express yourself and enjoy the moment and we are going to back you, no matter what,'" Harshal recalled.
