England drop Brydon Carse after alleged nightclub incident, ECB launches investigation

In a series of interesting updates, England speedster Brydon Carse has been ruled out of contention for the second Test against Pakistan after an incident in Derby over the weekend. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will not consider the fast bowler for selection after he was briefly taken into custody in connection with an alleged incident at a nightclub on Sunday.

Hampshire's 23-year-old pacer Sonny Baker has been included into the England squad as Carse's replacement for the second Test at the iconic Lord's which is set to start on August 27. The hosts will enter the game with a 1-0 advantage after defeating Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs in the series opener.

“Following a referral from the ECB, the Cricket Regulator has confirmed that they will investigate events on Saturday night in Derby. Brydon Carse will no longer be available for selection for the Second Men’s Rothesay Test Match while this investigation is ongoing and the full facts are obtained," the ECB said on Monday.

Footage circulating on social media reportedly showed Carse being escorted away from the venue in handcuffs by police. The 31-year-old Durham pacer was understood to have visited the Derby nightclub on Saturday evening along with England teammate Matthew Potts.

Both Carse and Potts were seen in action for Durham in the week, helping the county side secure a win against Derbyshire in the County Championship.

“We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating," the ECB said in a statement on Sunday. “We will provide a further update when possible."

The incident takes place after England skipper Joe Root's decision not to impose curfew after returning for his second spell as Test captain. England had previously introduced restrictions on players staying out late after a number of incidents on overseas tours, including Harry Brook's confrontation with a nightclub bouncer in Wellington.
