England's young pacer Issy Wong wreaked havoc in Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 eliminator with the first-ever hat-trick in the inaugural edition. The Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer ended UP Warriorz hopes of chasing down the 183-run target with a hat-trick in the 13th over.
ย

The 20-year-old started off with the wicket of set batter Kiran Navgire. The Warriorz batter went down the track in an attempt to hit the ball over deep mid-wicket but got caught in the deep by Nat Sciver-Brunt. Simran Shaikh then got bowled by an in-swinger from Wong. The third to fall was Sophie Ecclestone. Wong went for the yorker again. Ecclestone went for the drive and dragged the ball back to the stumps.

Earlier Wong got the wicket of skipper Alyssa Healy with the new ball. Healy went for the flick towards mid-wicket but was beaten by the swing. The leading edge was easily taken by MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

In her last over, she conceded just two runs as Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Anjali Sarvani could not do much with the bat. In her quota of four overs, she conceded just 15 runs and took four wickets.ย

She scored 43 runs from 27 deliveries including four fours and three sixes. After her wicket, there wasn't much Deepti Sharma could do.

Earlier, Healy won the toss and opted to field first. MI got off to a good start despite Yastika Bhatia falling in the powerplay overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt anchored MI's innings. She contributed with an unbeaten 72 off 38 deliveries including nine fours and two sixes. She had support from Hayley Matthews (26) and Amelia Kerr who contributed with a cameo of 19-ball 29. Towards the end, Pooja Vastrakar scored 11 runs from four deliveries including one four and one six. MI posted a daunting total of 182/4 on the board.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI will now face Meg Lanningโ€™s Delhi Capitals in the final of WPL 2023 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 26.
