BCCI provides major update on Prince Yadav's injury, return timeline decoded

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally issued an official update on India's pace sensation Prince Yadav after the 24-year-old sustained an injury during the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series against Zimbabwe on Saturday, July 25.

The pacer was ruled out of the third T20I, with the board confirming the nature of his injury through an official statement.

BCCI confirms Prince Yadav suffered hamstring niggle

Ahead of the third T20I in Harare, captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. During the team announcement, it was confirmed that Prince Yadav was unavailable for selection after picking up an injury in the previous game.

Shortly afterwards, the BCCI shared an official update on its X handle.

"𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: Prince Yadav was unavailable for selection in the third T20I due to a hamstring niggle which he sustained while bowling in the second T20I against Zimbabwe."

Prince's injury occurred during his second over in the second T20I. The right-arm pacer pulled up during his run-up before delivering the third ball of the over and immediately walked off the field after experiencing discomfort.

Visuals from the official broadcast had hinted that the youngster had suffered a hamstring issue, and the BCCI has now officially confirmed the diagnosis.

West Indies series likely comeback target for Prince Yadav

It now remains to be seen when Prince will return to competitive cricket. The timing of the injury means the fast bowler is not expected to feature in the Asian Games, with India's men's T20 squad for the multi-sport event already announced ahead of the tournament, which begins on September 19.

Following the Asian Games, India are scheduled to host West Indies for a five-match T20I series in October.

Given the nature of a hamstring niggle and the recovery time generally associated with such injuries, Prince Yadav is expected to regain full fitness before the West Indies assignment and could return to India's squad for the home series, subject to medical clearance.
