BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has been entrusted with a major responsibility at the International Cricket Council after being appointed as the head of the newly-formed Governance Review Committee. The appointment came during the ICC Annual Meetings, where several key governance and financial decisions were approved, including a significant financial package for Cricket West Indies.

Saikia's elevation marks another important milestone for Indian cricket's growing influence in global administration, with the BCCI official also earning a place on another newly constituted ICC committee.

Devajit Saikia appointed to lead ICC Governance Review Committee

The ICC confirmed Saikia's appointment as the chairman of the newly established Governance Review Committee, which has been tasked with examining and strengthening the governing body's administrative framework. He will work alongside Dr Mohammed Moosajee of Cricket South Africa and newly appointed ICC Independent Director Dr Ros Rivaz.

In addition to leading the committee, Devajit Saikia has also been named a member of the Franchise Leagues Committee, which will be chaired by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal. The committee also includes representatives from Cricket Namibia, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and Cricket Australia.

ICC approves major loan to Cricket West Indies

One of the committee's first major decisions was approving a USD 12.82 million loan to Cricket West Indies (CWI) to help the board manage its ongoing financial challenges and improve cash flow.

The ICC also reviewed the progress made by Sri Lanka Cricket regarding its proposed constitutional reforms, reiterating that elections should be conducted at the earliest opportunity. The governing body confirmed that Sri Lanka Cricket would continue to remain unrepresented at ICC Board meetings until the stipulated requirements are met.

Elsewhere, the ICC ratified the appointment of Tamim Iqbal as the Bangladesh Cricket Board's Full Member Director, admitted Mauritius as its 111th member, while Cricket Canada remained suspended pending compliance with required conditions. The global body also placed France Cricket on notice over breaches of its membership criteria, highlighting another busy round of administrative decisions during the Annual Meetings.
