Canada men's cricket team has made a bold decision to hire the former Rajasthan Royals and Andhra Pradesh Ranji team coach Monty Desai as their head coach. In addition to RR and Andhra, Desai has also worked with Nepal and Afghanistan men's teams. However, there was no immediate announcement made on how long he will be serving the role.
Arvinder Khosa, president of Cricket Canada, has confirmed the appointment through a press release following the decision.

Khosa in his statement said the intention behind hiring Desai is to restore professionalism and boost the performance of Canada Cricket.
"Our foremost priority is to restore Cricket Canada's prominence through performance, professionalism, and a renewed and vitalized sense of purpose. Appointing Monty Desai reflects this vision," Khosa said.
Khosa acknowledged Desai's experience and his role in transforming the associate nations, like Afghanistan and Nepal.
"His experience with Associate nations, most notably Nepal and Afghanistan, demonstrates his ability to transform teams through effective leadership, discipline, and a clear long term plan," he added.
"As we build on our recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup appearance, this year marks a pivotal moment, and we are confident that under his leadership, the team will make significant progress," Khosa concluded.
What Desai said
After the announcement of his new role, Desai said that he was honored for the opportunity and expressed his gratitude to Cricket Canada.
"I am honoured to take on this responsibility and thank Cricket Canada for their trust," he said."
Desai, who has previously worked with Cricket Canada, said that his previous understanding of team's potential and zeal the team has to become competitive.

"My previous experience in Canada has given me a clear understanding of the system's potential and the passion that exists for the game. Associate cricket is an important driver in the global growth of cricket today, and teams like Nepal and Afghanistan have demonstrated what belief, discipline, and fearlessness can unlock.
"Canada has a similar opportunity, and my focus will be on building a culture that translates this potential into consistent performances on the international stage," he concluded.
With Monty Desai at the helm, Canada will be aiming to turn potential into performance and carve a stronger identity on the global cricket stage.
