Rajasthan Royals' batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the verge of storming into the record books with two potential feats in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. The 15-year-old phenom has the opportunity to reach a major milestone tonight during the high-stakes encounter between RR and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 1.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on brink of completing 100 sixes in T20s
Statistically, Sooryavanshi is just a single hit away from completing 100 sixes in his Twenty20 career. Should he clear the ropes tonight, he will become the first teenager in the history of the sport to reach a century of maximums in the T20 format. His rapid ascent is underscored by the fact that he has amassed 99 sixes in just 27 innings, totaling 1,101 runs.
The young opener from Bihar has been in devastating form this season, mirroring the dominance he showed in previous years. In his nine appearances so far in IPL 2026, he has racked up 400 runs at an impressive average of 44.44. Most notably, his scoring has come at an extraordinary strike rate of 238.09, featuring two half-centuries and a brilliant top score of 103.
If he secures the record in his 28th innings tonight, he will significantly eclipse previous benchmarks set by other global stars. For comparison, Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz held a prominent spot with 90 sixes through 52 innings, but Sooryavanshi is set to reach the hundred-mark in nearly half the time, further cementing his reputation as one of the most explosive young talents in world cricket.
Another record beckons Sooryavanshi
In addition to the career milestone, Sooryavanshi is closing in on a prestigious single-season record currently held by Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma. During the 2024 season, Sharma set the benchmark for the most sixes hit in a single IPL edition, clearing the boundary 42 times—a feat that remains the highest in the league's history.
Sooryavanshi now needs just six more maximums to surpass that tally and claim the record for himself. His campaign has been defined by aggressive power-hitting, with the young left-hander already accumulating 34 boundaries and 37 sixes in the current tournament. A big portion of that total came during his breathtaking century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur on April 25. In that remarkable 103-run knock, which came off only 37 deliveries, Sooryavanshi dismantled the bowling attack by hammering five fours and a staggering 12 sixes, setting the stage for his record-breaking pursuit tonight.
