CWG 2026: Medals keep piling up for India as Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran claim triple jump podium spots

India continued its impressive run at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran delivered a double podium finish in the men's triple jump on Saturday. Chithravel clinched the silver medal, while Selva Prabhu settled for bronze, adding two more podium finishes to India's growing tally in Glasgow.

The achievement further strengthened India's athletics campaign, with the country enjoying another successful day across multiple disciplines.

Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu secure double podium finish

Praveen Chithravel produced his best jump of 16.58 metres on his fourth attempt to finish second and claim the silver medal. Meanwhile, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran registered a season-best leap of 16.52 metres to secure the bronze medal.

Chithravel had a slow start to the competition and was placed fifth after the opening three rounds. He opened with a jump of 16.05m, improved to 16.31m in the third round and then delivered a massive 16.58m effort in his fourth attempt, which briefly propelled him to the top of the standings before he eventually finished with silver.

Selva Prabhu, on the other hand, consistently improved throughout the final. After beginning with 16.17m on his second attempt, he bettered it to 16.43m in the third round before producing his best jump of 16.52m, which proved enough to earn the bronze medal.

India's athletics campaign gathers momentum

The latest double podium finish continued India's impressive showing in athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Earlier in the day, Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria captured the women's 57kg gold medal after defeating reigning champion Michaela Walsh by a unanimous 5-0 decision. The triumph came shortly after Preeti Pawar secured the women's 54kg gold, making it India's second boxing gold of the day and extending the country's successful run in Glasgow.
