Afghanistan is set to host India in a three-match T20I series in September, with the fixtures expected to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. While the schedule is yet to receive official confirmation, the series is likely to take place on September 13, 15 and 17, according to Cricinfo.

The upcoming assignment will mark a unique milestone, as it will be the first time Afghanistan host India on Indian soil despite using venues in the country as their home base for several years.

India to face Afghanistan in Delhi
Afghanistan have previously hosted international matches in Lucknow, Dehradun and Greater Noida, but have never hosted India in a bilateral series.
The three-match T20I series is expected to be staged entirely at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, making it the first occasion where Afghanistan officially host India in India.
The Afghanistan series has been scheduled between India's Test tour of Sri Lanka and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
India's second Test against Sri Lanka is scheduled to conclude on August 27, providing the team with more than two weeks before the opening T20I against Afghanistan.
The Asian Games are set to begin on September 24, just a week after the conclusion of the T20I series. The two sides last met in June when Afghanistan travelled to India for a multi-format series.
India registered a commanding victory in the one-off Test, winning by an innings and 300 runs on the third day in New Chandigarh. The Men in Blue then completed a 3-0 sweep in the ODI series.
India looking to bounce back in white-ball cricket
Despite entering the year as the reigning T20 world champions, India's recent white-ball results have been disappointing.
Soon after losing the two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast, India suffered a 4-0 T20I series defeat against England, with one match abandoned due to rain, before also losing the ODI series 2-1.
India are currently in Zimbabwe for a three-match series as they continue preparations for the upcoming international assignments.

Afghanistan have not played a T20I since the 2026 T20 World Cup held in India. The Asian side won two of their four group-stage matches during the tournament but narrowly missed out on qualification for the Super Eight stage.
The September series against India will therefore mark Afghanistan's return to international T20 cricket after the World Cup campaign.
