Two milestones in 20 days: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's record-breaking streak explained

India's teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has rewritten the record books twice in the span of just 20 days, underlining why he is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket. The 15-year-old first became India's youngest-ever men's international cricketer before following it up with another historic achievement less than three weeks later.

While his journey at the highest level is only just beginning, the youngster has already etched his name alongside some of the biggest names in Indian cricket.

Youngest-ever India debutant

Vaibhav created history on July 3 when he made his T20I debut against England at the age of 15 years and 99 days, becoming the youngest player to represent India in men's international cricket.

In doing so, he broke Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record, with the batting legend having made his India debut at 16 years and 205 days.

However, the start to his international career was far from ideal. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi managed scores of 14, 13 and 15 in his first three appearances before being left out of the playing XI.

Youngest player to score a men's international fifty

Twenty days later, Vaibhav responded in emphatic fashion by scripting another piece of history during the first T20I against Zimbabwe on July 23.

At 15 years and 118 days, he became the youngest player to score a half-century in men's international cricket, surpassing the previous record.

The left-hander reached the milestone in just 18 balls before finishing with a breathtaking 50 off 19 deliveries, an innings that included four fours and four sixes.

His knock powered India to a comfortable seven-wicket victory, helping the Men in Blue successfully chase 126 with 40 balls to spare. The win was also significant for Shreyas Iyer, who registered his first victory as India's T20I captain.

Interestingly, the Harare Sports Club has already become a happy hunting ground for Vaibhav. Earlier this year, he smashed 175 off just 80 balls against England in the Under-19 World Cup final, playing a key role in India's title-winning campaign.

With two major records already to his name in less than three weeks, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has once again shown that his performances in the IPL, Under-19 cricket and India A setup were no coincidence. At just 15 years of age, the youngster has plenty of time on his side as he looks to build on a remarkable start to his international career.
