In a significant boost for Arsenal, their captain, Martin Odegaard, inked a fresh five-year contract on September 22. This pivotal move sees the Norwegian maestro cementing his commitment to the Gunners until 2028, with no provision for an extension.

Having initiated his Arsenal sojourn with a loan spell from Real Madrid in January 2021, Odegaard quickly showcased his mettle. His Premier League debut against Manchester United on January 30, 2021, marked the beginning of a flourishing career at the North London club. To date, the talisman has made 91 Premier League appearances, boasting a tally of 25 goals complemented by 13 assists.

By August 2021, the club acknowledged his worth by sealing a permanent move for the player.

Odegaard's prowess was particularly evident in the 2022/23 Premier League season. Over 34 games, he fired 55 shots with 31 on target and netted 15 goals, surpassing his expected goals (xG) of 9.03. Alongside his goal-scoring exploits, he demonstrated creativity and vision, averaging 46 passes per match at an impressive 84% completion rate and chipping in with 7 assists.

The 2022/23 season also saw him receiving nominations for the Premier League Player of the Season, Premier League Young Player of the Season, and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards. Beyond his individual contributions, Odegaard's leadership qualities shone brightly, guiding both Arsenal and the Norway national team as captain.

Reflecting on his renewed commitment, Odegaard expressed his contentment and affinity for the club on Arsenal's official website.

"Signing a new contract was a really easy decision for me for lots of reasons. Mainly what we are doing right now as a club is special, and I want to be a part of that. I'm really excited for what's to come here. I've found a place where I can be really settled and call my home," Odegaard said.

"My story is a bit different maybe, as I moved around different clubs since I was 16. At Arsenal, since the first day, I've felt great and this is definitely my home now. I just want to say thanks to everyone working at the club and of course, our fantastic supporters. I will continue to give everything to bring success to this club in the years to come," he added.

Odegaard's decision reaffirms Arsenal's long-term vision and promises exciting times ahead for the Gunners' faithful.
