Hansi Flick has added a new captain to the leadership group, and it's not shocking, given his season and a successful FIFA World Cup campaign recently. The Catalan side has included 19-year-old Lamine Yamal in their group of captains for the 2026/27 season, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.

The leadership group now consists of Raphinha, Pedri, Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong and Yamal. Head coach Flick personally selected Raphinha as first captain and Pedri as second. The remaining three spots were decided by a squad vote, in which the players chose Eric García, De Jong and Yamal.
Yamal’s inclusion stands out given his age. The young forward, who wears the club’s number 10 shirt, has established himself as one of Barcelona’s standout performers and an on-pitch leader under Flick. The decision follows the club’s hybrid approach of combining managerial selection with player voting, a system used in recent seasons after the departure of previous captains.
Flick is expected to address the captaincy arrangements in his pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s upcoming fixture against Valencia. The announcement came after three La Liga matchdays and just ahead of the Spanish side’s UEFA Champions League campaign kicking off.
