Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar, the world's governing body for football took the decision to release a full Soundtrack, joining the many firsts that are happening at this World Cup. The multi-song collection features many top international artists from different musical genres with hits in all genres.
Songs have been associated with the marquee event since the 1962 tournament that Mexico hosted. But FIFA's first official World Cup song was released during the 1990 edition of the mega event in Italy. Since then, all the World Cup songs have an English version and one in the national language of the host country, except in 2018.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is the first tournament where the world football's governing body has not adopted an official song but instead, have gone forward with a soundtrack instead! The multi-song collection has international artists from a number of different musical genres as FIFA gradually added songs to the collection before the World Cup kicked off.
Indian tinge after local flavour
The first songs that were added to the list were Hayya Hayya (Better Together) by Trinidad Cardona, Davido, and Aisha
Arhbo by Ozuna featuring GIMS, and The World is Yours to Take by Lil Baby and FIFA sponsor Budweiser. Then came along Light the Sky, which featured Emirati singer Balqees, Moroccan-Canadian Nora Fatehi, Iraqi Rahma Riad, and Moroccan singer-songwriter Manal, and Dreamers, with Fahad Al Kubaisi and BTS heartthrob Jung Kook.
FIFA announced ‘Hayya Hayya’ (Better Together) as the first song to enter the Qatar World Cup soundtrack in April 2022. It features Trinidad Cardona, Davido and Aisha and was used during the draw for the group stage. Aisha is a Qatari artist, while Cardona is an American.
Ozuna and Gims are the artists behind ‘Arhbo’, the second song used for the Qatar World Cup soundtrack. The song takes its name from the local slang word for welcome in Qatar. It is also derivative of the Arabic word Marhaba, while the song was also recorded in Doha.
American rap artist Lil Baby and FIFA sponsor Budweiser created ‘The World is Yours to Take’. It will be used for promotional material, while Lil Baby will also perform it in Qatar.
