After a tough 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash, Barcelona boss, Hansi Flick said that he was quite happy with the result rather than the performance from the players.

Hansi Flick opens up on Barcelona performance

The game was pretty tough right from the start, as Newcastle players dominated the Spanish club and endured a physical game at the St. James Park.

Newcastle's Harvey Barnes started the scoring in the 86th minute of the game. It seemed all over for Barca, but a foul on Dani Olmo during the stoppage time led to a penalty, and it was taken by Yamal who successfully converted it and leveled the game.

Considering this as an away game, this was a decent result for Barcelona, as the second leg will take place at the Camp Nou.

Hansi Flick appreciates Barcelona's defending

After the game Hansi Flick expressed his opinion on his team's performance against the English side, saying that the team's performance was not good with the ball and but appreciated the overall defending. He noted the difficulty of playing at St. James Park, considering the atmosphere.

"I’m happier with the result. We didn’t play well with the ball. Without it, we were good, we defended together as a team. That was positive. It wasn’t easy playing in this stadium, with that pressure and atmosphere. We made a lot of mistakes under that pressure, and we need to improve,” said Hansi Flick.

Barcelona will now face Sevilla in a LaLiga game on Sunday before having Newcastle United at Camp Nou for the second leg.
