Belgium advances to World Cup Quarter-Finals; co-hosts USA eliminated

All the host nations are now out of the World Cup. Belgium delivered a commanding performance to eliminate the United States from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing a convincing 4-1 victory in the Round of 16 on Tuesday. Charles De Ketelaere stole the show with a first-half brace, opening the scoring in the 9th minute and adding a second in the 33rd minute. 

Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku further extended Belgium’s lead after the break, putting the result beyond doubt. The USA managed a consolation goal through Timothy Tillman but could not mount a serious comeback against the clinical Red Devils.

The victory sends Belgium into the quarter-finals, where they will face one of the remaining contenders in what promises to be a tougher test. They are set to face Spain, who are coming off defeating Portugal with a score of 1-0 as Cristiano Ronaldo played his last international football game.

For the host nation USA, the tournament ends in disappointment despite a spirited group stage campaign. Belgium’s experience and attacking efficiency proved too much on the night. They will now prepare for their quarter-final clash, continuing their quest for a first-ever World Cup title.
