Qatar had a forgettable outing against co-hosts Canada in Vancouver as they conceded six goals and scored none. After the thumping defeat that featured two red cards, Qatar and Canada players were involved in an ugly scuffle on the pitch. The fight started after the final whistle as Jonathan David capped off the game with a hat-trick during the stoppage time.

Not just players, but the staff was involved in a scuffle as well. There was a lot of pushing and shoving before the security personnel intervened and doused the flames between two teams' camps. The video of the physical altercation has gone viral on social media.
Tempers flared as Qatar’s midfielder Assim Madibo's reckless tackle led to Ismael Kone's broken left leg. Kone was stretchered off the field. He was rushed to the hospital for surgery. Upon VAR check, Madibo who seemed distraught by the incident, was shown the red card. Qatar played most of the second half with nine players. Kone’s replacement, Nathan Saliba, added to Canada’s lead with a goal in the 63rd minute via a free kick from 20 yards.
Canada coach on fight after final whistle
Canada's coach Jesse Marsch revealed that Madibo had apologised to Kone after the game. He slammed Qatar players for starting a fight after the game, terming it as 'strange behaviour'.
“I don't understand a reaction from their entire bench to try to start a fight about it being a red card when a clear foul just happened that broke a player's leg,” Marsch said.
David questions Madibo’s intention
Kone is all but ruled out of the remainder of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Hat-trick hero David criticised Madibo for the red card tackle. David had also dedicated a goal to his teammate Kone, holding up his no.8 jersey to the home crowd.
“If there’s a play where you cannot win the ball, there’s no point,” David said. “It’s just to hurt people.”
Canada will miss ‘X-factor’
Canada captain Stephen Eustaquio labelled 'Kone' as the X factor of the team who will be missed in the upcoming matches. Meanwhile, Canada have all but confirmed their berth in Round of 32 with their first ever win in World Cup history. They will go up against will now go up against Switzerland on June 25 at the same venue.
