The Spanish side took over their official social media accounts to release the injury update. The statement read: 

“Frenkie de Jong sustained an injury to the distal biceps of his right leg during this morning’s training session.”

The statement further read: 

“Medical tests have confirmed that the expected recovery period will be approximately five to six weeks.”

The 28-year-old had to leave the session early due to pain in the back of his thigh, and subsequent medical tests confirmed the muscle tear. The player suffered a tear that has now forced him to the sidelines at a critical juncture in Barcelona's La Liga and Champions League campaign.

The latest updates point to him being sidelined for around 5-6 weeks, depending on the source and recovery progress. This means he'll likely miss a string of important matches, including games against Villarreal, Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey, Athletic Club, the Champions League Round of 16 ties, both legs, Sevilla, and possibly more, which is a huge blow for the club.
