Barcelona star goalkeeper Joan Garcia is set to receive a Spain call-up for their game against Lionel Messi's Argentina in La Finalissima in March. The goalkeeper has dropped exceptional performances so far this season and could hence, earn his maiden call-up.
Joan Garcia's impact at Barcelona
Barca signed Joan Garcia from Espanyol in the season 2025, and he has been superb for them. He has kept seven clean sheets in 16 games across all competitions and also made some amazing saves. He made six saves as Barcelona defeated Espanyol 2-0 in LaLiga on Saturday, January 4.
As per Sport, Garcia's performances have put him on the radar of Spain boss Luis de la Fuente. Athletic Club's Unai Simon is currently La Roja's first choice keeper, with Arsenal's David Raya and Real Sociedad's Alex Remiro competing for second place.
Big change in Spain's squad?
However, De La Fuente is thinking of replacing one of the latter two with Joan Garcia for La Finalissima. He will take his final call after the Supercopa de Espana. Barcelona will lock horns with Athletic Club in the final on January 7, with the winner facing either Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, the La Finalissima game between Spain and Lionel Messi-led Argentina will take place in Qatar on March 27.
