Real Madrid have been dealt a significant blow ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against Manchester City, as left-back Alvaro Carreras has been ruled out with a muscle injury in the calf of his right leg.

The club confirmed the diagnosis following medical tests, stating the injury's evolution is pending but ensuring Carreras will miss Wednesday's high-stakes match at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It's a huge setback for the Los Blancos, who now face a defensive reshuffle with limited options like Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia likely to step in. The absence compounds the club's mounting injury crisis heading into one of the season's most anticipated ties.

Key attacking stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham are already sidelined, while earlier reports suggested additional concerns, including Rodrygo.

Carreras, who returned to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window and quickly established himself as a first-choice left-back under interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa, had been a reliable presence in defense. The player’s injury stems from a knock sustained in recent domestic action, initially appearing minor but worsening upon further evaluation.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Arbeloa’s club remains focused on managing the situation day by day, with hopes that Carreras might recover in time for the return leg, though his immediate unavailability marks yet another challenge in what has been a turbulent period for the La Liga giants.
