Brazil vs India football match to take place in this city as CBF opens talks with Indian organisers

India could soon witness one of its biggest international football fixtures, with the Brazil national football team reportedly in advanced talks to play a friendly in Kolkata. According to a report by ESPN Brasil, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has opened discussions with Indian organisers to bring the five-time FIFA World Cup champions to the country later this year.

While the opposition is yet to be finalised, the proposed fixture could become one of the biggest football events hosted in India in recent years.

CBF in advanced talks to bring Brazil to India

According to the report, discussions between the CBF and Indian stakeholders began during the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026.

Brazil's interest in playing in India has reportedly been driven by the overwhelming support the Seleção received from Indian football fans throughout the tournament, with images and videos of passionate supporters gaining significant traction on social media.

Brazil are scheduled to play three international friendlies between the end of September and the beginning of October. Two fixtures have already been confirmed against Australia on September 25 in Townsville and September 29 in Brisbane.

The CBF is now negotiating a third friendly, which could potentially be staged in India. The report also stated that although there were strong demands to host Brazil in Bangladesh, Singapore and Qatar, negotiations have only progressed with India so far.

Kolkata could add another chapter to its Brazilian football connection

While the identity of Brazil's opponent has not yet been confirmed, Kolkata has emerged as the likely venue if the proposal goes through.

The city shares a long-standing connection with Brazilian football. Legendary footballer Pelé famously played at Eden Gardens in 1977 when New York Cosmos faced Mohun Bagan, before returning to Kolkata decades later.
