Renowned Brazilian footballer Neymar is set to undergo surgery after suffering a severe left knee injury. The 31-year-old forward, currently playing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, sustained a rupture to his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during a World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay. The injury occurred in the 44th minute of the game, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Brazil.

Confirmation of Neymar's injury came from Brazil's Football Confederation (CBF) after an MRI scan. The CBF statement noted that the surgery date is yet to be determined. Medical teams from both the Brazilian national team and Al-Hilal are in constant communication and collaborating to facilitate Neymar's recovery.

"It's a very sad time, the worst. I know I'm strong, but this time I'm going to need my family and friends even more. It's not easy to go through injury and surgery, imagine going through it all again after four months of recovery," Neymar wrote on Instagram.

The injury has left Neymar understandably frustrated, especially as it follows his recent return from an ankle operation. Earlier in the year, Neymar underwent surgery on his right ankle, requiring several months of recovery. After recuperating, he signed a two-year deal with Al-Hilal, where he had participated in only five games this season before suffering this knee injury.

Throughout his career, Neymar has faced recurring injuries, particularly to his right foot during his time with former club Paris St Germain. In addition, his aspirations of winning the World Cup have been marred by injuries. In 2014, a back injury forced him to miss the semi-final match against Germany, and in 2018, a sprained right ankle impacted his performance in Russia until Brazil was eliminated by Belgium in the quarter-finals.

This latest setback is a significant blow to Al-Hilal, who reportedly paid 90 million euros for Neymar. Nonetheless, the club continues to perform strongly in the Saudi Pro League, remaining unbeaten, and currently leading their AFC Champions League group after two games.

Neymar's journey to recovery will be closely monitored by fans and football enthusiasts worldwide, as they hope to see the star return to the pitch in peak form once again.
