Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is proud of his team's progress given their poor start to the season, with his team facing Newcastle United in the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday, February 26, at Wembley Stadium. Moreover, with his team also third on the Premier League points table, Fernandes was quick to shower praise on the club manager Erik Ten Hag.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes spoke about the changes that the Dutchman made to the team by bringing in different ideas and strict discipline in training.
"He brought his ideas, the discipline during the training sessions, during the week, during the games. Obviously, I think the most important change is the results and confidence is much higher now at this moment. We believe that the process that we are going through is the right one. I think everyone has the right belief," Fernandes said.
Shedding light on their improvement as a team, Fernandes reiterated that many outsiders have been left with eggs on their faces after the brilliant improvement that the club has shown in recent times.
"It's six or seven months now and things are going pretty quickly. I think from outside probably more because people never thought that United will be in this position at this time because of all the changes, because of the new manager, because of the results in the beginning," Fernandes said.
Speaking about their final opponents on the night Newcastle United, who stand a chance of winning a trophy for the first time since 1969. Fernandes hailed the Magpies and opined that they were the surprise of the tournament.
"I think everyone knows that Newcastle is being probably the biggest surprise of the season. Not because of their qualities, because the quality has been always there, but because last season they struggle to stay in the Premier League and this season they're doing really well. So I think everyone knows that it is a pretty strong and intense team. They haven't conceded many goals this season. I think probably the best or the second best in Europe with fewer goals conceded," said Fernandes.
