Chelsea Football Club now has a new owner after the old owners' exit. The English Premier League side has undergone a significant ownership change after chairman Todd Boehly and co-owner Mark Walter sold their stakes in the Blues.

Private equity firm Clearlake Capital has acquired their shares, securing full control of the club. Boehly and Walter and Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss each held approximately 12.8% of Chelsea.
Clearlake Capital takes full control of Chelsea as Boehly and Walter sell stakes
Clearlake previously owned a majority 61.5% stake following the consortium’s £2.3 billion purchase of the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022. Wyss, who also held a 12.8% share, remains a partner in the ownership group. The deal, announced late on 16 September 2026, values Chelsea at around £5 billion including debt. Boehly will step down as chairman, a role he has held since the takeover.
Clearlake, led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, now assumes complete ownership. A club statement confirmed that there will be no changes to day-to-day operations, leadership or overall strategy. The transaction ends a period of reported tension within the ownership group that had been building since 2024. Boehly described his time at the club as an “honour.”
The American businessman, also a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaves after a turbulent era marked by heavy spending, multiple managerial changes and mixed results on the pitch. Clearlake’s full control is expected to provide greater stability as Chelsea continues its rebuild.
Meanwhile, the club, which plays its home games at Stamford Bridge, will play Brentford next in the Premier League clash. In their most recent fixture in the league, Xabi Alonso’s side drew to Hull City 2-2. It is the former Real Madrid player and manager’s first season with the club.
