Speculation intensifies over Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term future with Al Nassr.

Multiple pathways remain open as the Portugal star weighs his next career chapter.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at Al Nassr could be approaching a crossroads, with growing speculation suggesting the Portugal star may consider a summer exit from the Saudi Pro League.

Despite his status as the league’s biggest global draw, recent developments point to rising frustration behind the scenes that could influence the next phase of his career.

Release clause opens door to summer move

Ronaldo’s contract reportedly includes a €50 million release clause that becomes active ahead of the summer transfer window.

That clause, combined with his enduring global appeal, ensures there would be no shortage of suitors should he decide to move on.

Both Major League Soccer and a return to European football have been discussed as realistic options for the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward.

At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo is not considering retirement and remains determined to compete at the highest possible level. A move to the United States could also reignite his long-standing rivalry with Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami, adding further intrigue to any potential decision.

Discontent over treatment and league dynamics

According to reports from Portugal, Ronaldo is increasingly unhappy with how he has been treated by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund that owns Al Nassr along with Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, and Al Ahli.

The forward is understood to feel that PIF has prioritised Al Hilal’s success in the title race, including the high-profile shift of his former teammate Karim Benzema from Al Ittihad to Al Hilal.

While Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to win the Saudi Pro League title with Al Nassr, he reportedly believes his contribution to raising the league’s global profile merits greater respect.

His frustration appeared to surface when he refused to feature in Al Nassr’s recent 1-0 win over Al Riyadh, further fuelling exit rumours.

Past commitment contrasts with present uncertainty

The uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo’s future contrasts sharply with comments he made in October 2025, when he spoke enthusiastically about the league’s long-term growth.

“For me, it is an honour that the league is growing and many star players are coming to make the league even better and more competitive,” Cristiano Ronaldo said at the time, stressing his desire to help Saudi football progress over the next decade.

He also reflected fondly on his early success with the club, adding: “Probably when we won the first title [the 2023 King Salman Arab Clubs Cup]… to have the privilege to win in my first year here my first trophy was amazing. But I want more.”

Despite his role as an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s 2034 World Cup bid, Ronaldo’s immediate future now appears uncertain.
