Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney thinks Mohamed Salah is at the end of his career at Liverpool. He says the Egyptian has not been at his best lately and that his legs are gone.
Wayne Rooney opens up on Mohamed Salah
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney said that Salah's prime is over and he needs to rethink about his future. The Manchester United icon added that age has caught up with the Liverpool icon, and there is no chance of him returning to his best. He said:
“It will be at the end of season, you'd imagine. I think he's incredible player in what he's done for the Premier League and for Liverpool. One of the best to ever play in the Premier League, I think. But I just think, unfortunately, his legs have gone a little bit. I watched him in the African Cup of Nations as well, and he's not moving as well or as he was quick as he used to, which is no fault of his own."
"That happens to players. I think you've probably seen the end of him from the summer on. I think it's there for everyone to see and it was the same with Virgil van Dijk at the start of the season, that form's carried on throughout the season really. He's not really had a great season, so that's what I feel anyway.”
Salah was left out from the starting XI by Arne Slot in November, and the Liverpool star slammed the manager a few weeks later. He claimed that the club and the coach were trying to force him out, but has since decided to stay after internal conversation.
Mohamed Salah to leave Mohamed Salah this summer?
Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy believes Mohamed Salah will leave at the end of the season. He believes that only a managerial change at Anfield will keep the Egyptian winger at the club and told:
"I think so, yeah. I know he’s contracted longer, but with what’s gone on, how the team’s performed and how he’s performed, I think it would surprise most people if he stayed for another year. The only caveat would be if a new manager came in and really wanted to build a team around him, try to get one more year out of him and have that conversation. I don’t know Mo Salah personally, but maybe he’d be given a new impetus, a new lease of life, with a different manager."
Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League.
