In an emotionally charged episode following Spain's landmark achievement in the Women's World Cup, the euphoria of victory was swiftly overshadowed by personal heartbreak for the Spanish team's captain, Olga Carmona. Shortly after spearheading her side to their first-ever World Cup title, scoring the pivotal goal against England, she was dealt a devastating blow with the news of her father's demise.

Sunday saw Spain conquer the FIFA Women's World Cup pinnacle, with Carmona's strike in the 29th minute proving decisive for her team. Central to Spain's dominance were Aitana Bonmati and Teresa Abelleira, who orchestrated proceedings from midfield. The English defence, led by goalkeeper Mary Earps, was tested continually. Notably, Earps thwarted a penalty attempt from Jennifer Hermoso in the second half, preventing a larger score margin.

However, amidst the jubilation and festivities, Carmona's joy was poignantly short-lived. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) conveyed the sombre news post-match: Carmona's father, after a prolonged illness, had passed away the preceding Friday.

In an official statement released on social media, the RFEF stated, "With great sadness, we announce the passing of Olga Carmona's father. The distressing news reached the footballer after the culmination of the World Cup final." They further expressed, "Our heartfelt condolences extend to Olga and her family in this time of profound grief. Olga, you are an embodiment of Spanish football's legacy."

Remarkably, in a heart-wrenching act of love and selflessness, Carmona's family and inner circle opted against revealing this grievous news, wishing her undivided focus on the career-defining match ahead.

During the initial stages of the World Cup, Carmona's mother and siblings were present in New Zealand, rallying behind their champion. However, the gravity of the situation compelled them to hasten back to Spain. In a moving gesture of solidarity, they made their way to Australia by Saturday, ensuring they were present to witness and support the Real Madrid defender in the final. Their presence, undoubtedly, bolstered Carmona as she etched Spain's name into football history.
