India facilities a concern? Brazil plan Dhaka training before Kolkata friendly

In a series of shocking events, Brazil are considering Bangladesh as part of their preparations for the upcoming friendly against India, which is set to be played on October 3. The five-time world champions could set up a training camp in Dhaka before travelling to India for a high profile game. The Bangladesh Football Federation claimed that the idea was among a number of matters discussed with a Brazilian delegation during its recent visit, although nothing has been officially confirmed at this point of time. 

Big twist in Brazil vs India friendly fixture

A five-member Brazilian delegation arrived at Dhaka on August 23, to reviw facilities ahead of the Asian tour, inspecting stadiums and possible hotels. BFF president Tabith Awal revealed that the talks also include the possibility of Brazil training in Dhaka and playing a friendly against Bangladesh.

"The answers are yes. We discussed all options," said Awal on being asked if Brazil could either train in Dhaka or play against Bangladesh before locking horns against India.

Notably, the Brazilian delegation also reviewed the pitches and other facilities, with both federations discussing future collaborations in areas such as coaching, infrastructure and sports science. Brazil's Asian tour will start with friendly games against Australia in Townsville and Brisbane on September 25 and 29, respectively before the South American side heads to Kolkata.

Why does Brazil want Dhaka as a training centre?

Dhaka could emerge as a potential stop for Brazil between their games in Australia and the friendly against India, but no agreement has been reached yet. As per Awal, the Brazilian delegation was happy with the pitches at the National Stadium and Bashundhara Kings Arena, although there is room for improvements in some other facilities.

"The delegation found the pitches and adjacent areas at both the National Stadium and Bashundhara Kings Arena to be of an acceptable standard for the Brazilian national team, although some improvements are required to additional infrastructure, including dressing rooms, technical staff areas and security at entry and exit gates," said Awal.

Brazil doubt Indian facilities

Brazil's visit to Dhaka comes amid reported concerns about the maintenance of the pitch at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium, which is set to host the October 3 friendly against India. The Brazilian delegation noted issues including uneven areas, limited grass coverage and turf maintenance raising risk of injuries

With stars such as Vinicius Jr. expected to be part of the Brazil squad, the playing surface is likely to need improvements before the game. The pitch issue has now become another talking point ahead of the highly anticipated fixture in Kolkata.
