It will be the end of an era. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has informed the club he will depart at the end of the current season, bringing to a close one of the most successful eras in English football history.

The Spaniard, who has been with the Sky Blues since 2016, confirmed his decision internally, and a farewell to fans, along with an official club statement are expected in the coming days, as per a report by Fabrizio Romano.

Enzo Maresca, Guardiola’s former assistant and current Chelsea head coach, has emerged as the sole candidate to succeed him, pointing toward a smooth transition that maintains much of the tactical philosophy built at the Etihad Stadium.

The news ends months of speculation over Guardiola’s long-term future, despite his contract technically running until 2027. During his ten-year tenure, Guardiola transformed City into a domestic powerhouse, delivering multiple Premier League titles, domestic trebles, and the club’s first-ever Champions League triumph in 2023.

Guardiola’s departure marks the end of an era defined by unprecedented consistency, attacking brilliance, and a complete overhaul of the club’s playing identity. He is expected to make his final appearance as the head coach of the club against Aston Villa.
