Inter Miami are interested in signing Lionel Messi's former Argentine teammate Marcos Rojo. The 35-year-old defender currently plays for Racing Club in Argentina.
Inter Miami wants to sign Lionel Messi' former teammate Marcos Rojo
Rojo, who has been with his current team since arriving from Boca Juniors in October on a free transfer, is out of contract at the end of the season. He has played eight games across three different competitions for Racing but is yet to register a goal contribution.
Capped 61 times for the Argentina national team, Rojo had his last competitive game in a 4-3 Round of 16 defeat to eventual champions France at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. As per Athlon Sports, the veteran Manchester United centre-back is back on the radar of Inter Miami who were also interested in him in 2023 and now want him before the 2026 MLS season starts.
Rojo and Messi played at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year, albeit for different teams, with the former not appearing in any of his then club Boca Juniors's three group games.
Rojo and Messi shared the pitch 45 times for Argentina, registering two joint goal contributions, with each player assisting the other once.
Lionel Messi set to face Lamine Yamal
After his exit from Barcelona, Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi is set to lock horns with his old club's prodigy Lamine Yamal for the first time when the Albiceleste play reigning European champions Spain in the Finalissima.
Date set for Finalissima
The match will take place at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on March 27 next year, making it the very first meeting between the two players. The Albiceleste are the defending champions, having beaten Italy 3-0 three years ago.
Ironic clash on the cards
It is interesting to note that Yamal now dons Messi's legendary No. 10 jersey at Barcelona. The Argentine is one of the greatest to play for Barca, amassing almost 700 goals and securing multiple titles in an illustrious stint between 2004 and 2021.
