Kylian Mbappe has won the lawsuit against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, and the Ligue 1 side has to pay the unpaid salary and bonuses to the French footballer. A Paris labour court on Tuesday announced a partial end to one of the most acrimonious disputes in French football.
The lawyers for PSG and the Real Madrid star argued last month before the Conseil de prud’hommes de Paris, and each side demanded hundreds of millions from one another. The occurrence followed Mbappe’s end of the contract before he made his much-awaited move to Los Blancos in the summer of 2024.
Kylian Mbappe wins lawsuit against PSG; ordered to be paid €61 million
The court of Paris has sided with Mbappe and has ordered PSG to pay 60 million euros ($70.6 million). It has also been reported that the French club owes more than 260 million euros ($305 million) to the former player.
The argument was about Mbappe’s fixed-term contract to be reclassified as a permanent one, which triggered compensation for unfair dismissal and unpaid wages. This roughly corresponds to the Frenchman’s initial claim of 55 million euros amid accusations of betrayal and harassment in the breakdown of his relationship with PSG.
Meanwhile, PSG sought 440 million euros from the World Cup winner, claiming the damages and “loss of opportunity” following his move linked to Real Madrid as a free transfer. The relationship between Mbappe and PSG has been damaged ever since the Whites striker decided not to extend his contract with the side in 2023.
The contract expired in the summer of 2024 ahead of his transfer to the 15-time UCL winners. According to reports, PSG claims that Mbappe hid his decision not to renew his contract for nearly 11 months, because of which, the European Champions fell to a major financial loss. The player spent seven years at PSG and managed to find the net 256 times, which is a club record.
