The Olympic men's soccer tournament kicked off with a bang, as Morocco pulled off a dramatic 2-1 upset against two-time defending champions Argentina. The match was marred by chaos and controversy, with fans storming the pitch after a late Argentine equalizer was controversially disallowed.
Fans started getting furious and started attacking Argentine players which sparked the confusion over whether the game had been concluded or paused. The crowd was told to leave the stadium, but players remained at the venue and returned to the pitch for a final three minutes of added time in front of empty stands.
Fans invading the ground
Moments before play resumed, Cristian Medina’s disputed goal was disallowed by VAR for offside, and Morocco held on for the victory. The video of the incident went viral on the social sphere, here is the clip.
Fans were seen throwing objects and invading the ground later fans were tackled by security on the field at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard after Medina appeared to tie the game 2-2.

Argentina's FIFA World Cup 2022 winning captain Lionel Messi also reacted on this incident and shared a post on his Instagram.
Argentina players left the field after fans invaded the ground and the match was paused for two hours. Interestingly there was just one minute left for the final whistle. However, the security came to the ground and controlled the situation.
