Meanwhile, following the match, Messi, the Inter Miami striker, went on the critics. In comments, the 39-year-old captain said:
“They can say whatever they want. We compete, we fight, we also play well. Look how we played today, dominating England while we were losing.”
Messi, who recorded two assists and earned Man of the Match honours, added that he was “proud and happy to make all Argentinians happy.” Argentina trailed to an Anthony Gordon goal but mounted a late rally, with Enzo Fernández equalising before Lautaro Martínez scored the winner in stoppage time from a Messi assist.
