It was a crazy UEFA Champions League night when 18 teams played simultaneously and were fighting for qualification. The last day of the league phase saw top teams fighting for the last eight spots to directly qualify for the Round of 16.
Things were not in favour for Real Madrid as the 15-time UCL winners were stunned by Benfica 4-2, sending them to ninth, which was one place below advancing directly in the Round of 16. Astonishingly, Benfica advanced to the knockout phase in 24th place, only on goal difference, all thanks to a goal by the goalkeeper who had stunned, not just Alvaro Arbeola’s side but also the whole world.

Anatoliy Trubin scored a header in the eighth minute of the stoppage time to power Jose Mourinho’s squad into the historic win and deny the Los Blancos, who were third in the 36-team standings before the league phase games, out of the last eight in the standings.
Trubin has now become the fifth goalkeeper to score in the UCL. His goal is also the first since 2023 to be scored by a goalie in the tournament. Meanwhile, as the whole world talks about it, here is a list of goalkeepers who scored in the Champions League.
Hans-Jorg Butt (2000,2002 and 2009 against Juventus)

Anatoliy Trubin (2026 against Real Madrid)
Anatoliy Trubin scored a header to deny Real Madrid a direct Round of 16 qualification and help Jose Mourinho’s side advance to the knockout phase in 24th place by one goal difference.
