Arne Slot has issued a pointed response to comments from star forward Mohamed Salah about maintaining high standards at the club, amid growing tensions as the Egyptian prepares to depart Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot claps back at Mo Salah about standards at club
Speaking ahead of a Premier League match, Slot agreed on the importance of standards but stated they extend beyond the gym to performance "on the pitch," delivering the remarks in a visibly tetchy manner. He said:
"The standards are not only important in the gym. It’s also on the pitch. Okay. You understand me? Without me saying anything?"
Slot added that he fully agrees with Salah on the value of standards, insisting they remain strong at the club and expressing confidence that younger players and incoming signings will uphold them.
The exchange highlights underlying friction at Liverpool during a challenging campaign for the reigning champions. Salah, a transformative figure known for his elite professionalism and on-pitch leadership, has voiced concerns about the example set for the squad once he leaves.
