Mohamed Salah has now overtaken the ex-Chelsea legend Frank Lampard in Premier League's all-time top scorers list after scoring two goals against Bournemouth on Saturday, February 1. Liverpool managed to end Bournemouth's 11-game unbeaten run in the 2-0 win over the Cherries.
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah surpasses Frank Lampard
After scoring both goals in Liverpool's victory, Salah now has 178 goals in comparison to Lampard's 177. The Egyptian sees himself sixth in the Premier League's all-time top scorers list. He also took his Premier League tally of goals this season to 21.
Mohamed Salah is now behind fifth-placed Sergio Aguero (184) by six goals and nine goals behind fourth-placed Andy Cole (187). The other players who are on the list are Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213) and Alan Shearer (260).
Salah scored the first goal in the first half as he converted yet another penalty in the 30th minute. The fans of Cherries were not pleased with the penalty decision as many thought of it as controversial. But, for his second goal, he clocked back the time with his trademark curled strike from inside the box as he left Kepa Arrizabalaga stranded.
The Egyptian has always stepped up when it mattered the most this season. He has a tally of 21 goals so far with 13 assists to go with it in the 23 games he has featured in. It took just 278 appearances for the 32-year-old to this milestone. Back when he was with Chelsea, he scored two goals and the other 176 goals have come for Liverpool since he arrived in 2017.
Mohamed Salah equals Thierry Henry's record
Mohamed Salah made sure that the Reds left the Vitality Stadium with three points after scoring two goals against Bournemouth. With the second goal against the Cherries, Salah took his goal tally to 21 for this season.
This is the fifth time that Salah has crossed the 20-goal mark in a Premier League season and with this, he equalled Arsenal's legend Thierry Henry's record of going past more than 20 goals in five different seasons. The only years he failed to achieve this feat were in 2019-20, 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns.
Salah is in his final six months of his contract at Liverpool and with no official news regarding him signing a new contract, it appears that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
