Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been handed an additional one-match ban and a £30,000 fine by the Football Association. As a result, the Red Devils star will miss his side’s crucial away fixture against Chelsea this Saturday.
Man United star Harry Maguire handed suspension and £30,000 fine
The player is serving a ban for improper conduct and a £30,000 fine for his actions at The Vitality. The centre-back was punished for swearing at the fourth official immediately after his red card during United’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on 20 March.
Although he had already served the automatic one-game suspension that followed the sending-off, the FA’s independent regulatory commission imposed the extra ban and financial penalty after reviewing the incident.
The decision further complicates defensive options for manager Ruben Amorim, who is already dealing with several injuries and suspensions in the squad. Maguire, who has been a regular starter this season despite past criticism, was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the Bournemouth game. The club has the option to appeal the additional sanction, though no confirmation has been issued yet.
