Manchester City are planning a move to sign Liverpool target Marc Guehi. The Cityzens are roaming around the market after Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol during the Chelsea draw.
Manchester City wants to sign Liverpool's target Marc Guehi
As per a report in BBC Sport, Pep Guardiola wants a defender signed in the winter transfer window as they are left with Abdukodir Khusanov and Nathan Ake as the fit center-backs. Guehi is considered as the perfect signing as he is in the last six months of his contract at Crystal Palace.
The Englishman is ready to leave the London based club, and was close to joining Liverpool in the summer. However, the FA Cup winners pulled the plug on the deal on the last day of transfer window as they failed to find a replacement.
Manchester City are aiming to take advantage of the circumstances and sign him. Guardiola commented on his roster, signaling that they were set to spend after the Chelsea draw. He said on Sunday, January 4:
"We have a lot [of injuries]. John Stones is missing for I don't know how many months. Ruben now will be out, Josko will be out. Nathan [Ake], always we know he cannot play regularly. It's the situation - stay strong and we will find a solution. The spirit is there and will be there."
Apart from Guehi, Manchester City are close to signing Liverpool target Antoine Semenyo.
Manchester City and Liverpool target won't sign a new deal
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner confirmed in October 2025 that Marc Guehi will depart from the club in 2026. He revealed that Manchester City and Liverpool target was not in penning a new deal and said:
"I think Marc has already told us that he doesn't sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract. But he said, 'no, I want to make something different'. And that's normal. And for us, it's how we can deal with this situation? [What] is the best way to get this next step done? And that's all about how we are talking together."
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also keen on signing Marc Guehi, while Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the defender.
