Real Madrid makes final Mbappe injury call for Spanish Super Cup vs Atletico
Kylian Mbappe won't play on Friday, January 9, 2026, when Real Madrid faces Atletico Madrid for their Spanish Supercup encounter. The 15-time UEFA Champions League winners announced their squad list for the tournament, which kicks off with the semifinal against Atlético, and Mbappe was not in the list.
The French international has been sidelined due to a knee injury he sustained last week during training. Mbappe is not expected to return until next week at the earliest. Along with the World Cup winner, Eder Militao will also not be travelling.
However, Dean Huijsen and Trent Arnold Alexander are included in the squad. Along with these stars, academy players like Fran Gonzalez, David Jimenez, and Thiago are named in the list.
Mbappe has been recovering from a sprain in his left knee. With his progress being monitored, the 27-year-old would be unavailable for at least three weeks. Following this, the Madrid superstar was ruled out of the year's last training session in Madrid on Wednesday.
Mbappe, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker, netted his 59th goal for the Spanish giants, tying the club record for the most in a year held by Cristiano Ronaldo. The forward has scored more than half of the club’s goals this season with 29, alongside his five assists.
