Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has finally broken his silence on the racism controversy between Vinicius Jr and Gianluca Prestianni. The 55-year-old was one of the coaches who was asked about the topic, and his reply has stunned everyone.
PSG’s Enrique has surprising take on Vinicius-Prestianni racism controversy
Enrique was questioned by Clara Albuquerque, also from TNT Sports, regarding the ongoing controversy between the Real Madrid and Benfica players. The former FC Barcelona manager replied:
"What I can say about this subject is not important at all."
Enrique did not attempt to comment further on the topic while UEFA has been investigating the matter. Earlier, Pep Guardiola of Manchester City was asked the same questions to which he replied that “racism is everywhere.”
The controversy stems from the UEFA Champions League game between Real Madrid and Benfica in which Vinicius scored the only goal, which was overshadowed by the incident. The Brazilian alleged that he was racially abused by Benfica defender Prestianni, who allegedly called him “mono,” which translates in English from Spanish to monkey.
Following this, the match was halted for around 10 minutes. Teammate Kylian Mbappe has also stated that he has heard Prestianni calling Vinicius with the racial slur, “five times.” The governing body of the league is currently looking into the matter.
