Real Madrid are reportedly worried regarding negotiations with Vinicius Jr. They believe the winger being slammed and booed by the club's fans could possibly have a negative impact on the negotiations.
Real Madrid's concern regarding Vinicius Jr.
Vinicius' current deal is set to come to an end in 2027. There were reports of a contract extension last season, but they were halted. After Xabi Alonnso's exit earlier this month, Los Blancos reportedly started those talks again.
However, as per Diario AS, Real Madrid are now concerned that the reaction from the fans towards Vinicius could halt the negotiations. The Club's fans have booed and whistled the winger for his disappointing performances this season. He has amassed just one goal since October 2025.
Bad timing for Vinicius Jr.
Vinicius' poor form has also taken place with Los Blancos' poor form. They lost 3-2 against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, after which Xabi Alonso departed. They were then eliminated from the Copa del Rey Round of 16, losing 3-2 against Segunda Division side Albacete.
Alvaro Arbeloa reflects on Real Madrid fans booing Vinicius Jr and the team
Real Madrid locked horns with Levante at the Santiago Bernabeu in LaLiga on Saturday, January 17. Interestingly, a big chunk of the home fans booed every player of their own team, including Vinicius Jr. Some chants urging club president Florentino Perez to resign were also heard.
After the match ended, Alvaro Arbeloa, who took over as the first team head coach after Xabi Alonso's departure, said:
“I have always been someone who has had a lot of respect for the Bernabéu. I have also been booed a lot, and one of the things that makes this club great is the high standards we demand of our team. We know what kind of week we’ve had and we have to take those expectations in stride because they know we can give more. There’s nothing to reproach our fans for; it’s we who have to give much more to the Bernabéu.”
Real Madrid secured a 2-0 win. Kylian Mbappe started the scoring in the 58th minute through a penalty , before Raul Asencio doubled it seven minutes later from a corner. They will next face AS Monaco at home in the UEFA Champions League on January 20.
