Rio Ferdinand believes that Arsenal star Leandro Trossard deserves more praise. He appreciates the Belgian forward's impact on the side since his arrival.
The Gunners hammered arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at the Emirates in the Premier League on Sunday, November 23. Trossard started the scoring in the 36th minute before Eberechi Eze produced a hat-trick. The Belgian also gave an assist for Eze's third goal in the 76th minute.
Following the game, Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand appreciated Trossard on his official YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents, saying:
“Trossard has been ridiculous. He doesn’t get the love he deserves from the Arsenal fans. His goal contributions since he signed, only Saka has got more. [It’s also the] important goals he scores, whether it’s an equaliser, a late winner, it’s been a joke.”
Arsenal signed Trossard from Brighton in January 2023 for a reported fee of £27 million. Since then, he has scored 33 goals and gave 28 assists in 139 games for them.
This season, the 30-year-old has scored five goals and five assists in 15 games across all competitions.
Leandro Trossard reflects on his goal after Arsenal win vs Tottenham
The Belgian forward expressed his happiness at scoring for the Gunners in the North London Derby on Sunday. He talked about the significance of getting the first goal and how it gave team the confidence, telling the club's website:
“I enjoyed that a lot! I think it was important to get that goal. After that it gave us the edge to go on and score more goals, to create chances. I think we were dominant before, but obviously that gives you that extra bit of confidence to go and win the game. It was a perfect night for us.
“It was a really good game overall in every aspect, from defence to attack. We're really happy with all the goals we scored as well.”
Expressing gratitude for Arsenal fans on the night, he said:
“We need that. Today, especially, I know the history with the north London derby, but every game it's so important that they can push us forward in difficult moments. It helps us as players and it was just great.”
Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table by six points over second-placed Chelsea. They will next face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, November 26.
