McTominay believes Mainoo would be a strong fit for Napoli and has recommended him to Antonio Conte.

Mainoo has played just 228 minutes this season and is seeking regular game time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Scott McTominay has requested Napoli to sign Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in the next summer transfer window. He believes that the Englishman will be a great addition to the squad, amidst his struggle for regular playing time at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo's battle for regular playing minutes at Manchester United

So far, Mainoo has just accumulated 228 minutes of action in eight outings across all competitions this season for Manchester United. His only start appeared in the EFL Cup Second Round, where they suffered defeat on penalties against League Two side Grimsby Town.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming up, the English midfielder is looking for regular playing time. A source has told Sun Sport that Scott McTominay has urged Napoli to sign Mainoo. The source said:

“Scott has been to see Conte and told him to get Kobbie. He’s told him all about his strengths and what an outstanding player he is. He knows all about him from his time at United and thinks he would be a great addition to the squad, whether it’s on loan or a permanent deal.

“Kobbie has been brought up the right way at United having been in the academy since he was a little boy. He would fit straight in and give Napoli a boost.”

McTominay and Mainoo played 28 times together for Manchester United before the former's move to Napoli in 2024. He has created a big impact with the Italian side, helping them to clinch the Serie A title last season. Rasmus Hajlund is also currently on loan at Napoli from United.

Ruben Amorim points out inability to finish games as Manchester United draw against Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United played out a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday. Bryan Mbeumo provided Manchester United the lead in the 32nd minute.

However, the hosts also scored in the second half, and Mathys Tel equalised in the 84th minute. Richarlison seemed to have won it in the first minute of stoppage time, but Matthijs de Ligt restored the parity five minutes later.

Following the match, Ruben Amorim said that his team needs to finish games early when they are leading, saying:

“We need to feel the environment of the game and feel that the opponent is nervous, so we need to kill the game and not wait until the end.”

Manchester United had a similar sequence against Nottingham Forest away in their last Premier League game on November 1. They led 1-0 but went down 2-1 before recovering to secure a 2-2 draw.
