Pep Guardiola opens up about his future following loss against Real Madrid.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City suffered yet another Champions League exit against familiar rivals Real Madrid. The defending champions overwhelmed Man City with an aggregate score of 6-3 following the two legs of play that transpired in the playoff round of the tournament. Madrid fed on City's defensive howlers in the contest that took place at the Etihad Stadium a week ago. The one-goal advantage thickened to four in the reverse fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu courtesy of Kylian Mbappe's masterclass. A consolation goal by Nico Gonzalez decreased the lead but could not change the overall result of the tie. By virtue of the win, the Los Blancos have progressed to the Round of 16 of the UCL 2024-25.

The loss made Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admit the fact that Real Madrid on the day were better in every aspect of the game. He also noted the harsh reality that City are no longer the formidable side it once were. Having endured the loss, Pep Guardiola also stressed on number of matches remaining and vowed to fight for a place in the UCL for the next season.

With the UCL done and dusted for Guardiola, the attention will shift to the Premier League again, where they will be up against the league leaders Liverpool this weekend. Ahead of the much-anticipated game, Guardiola was asked about his future with the Manchester club. While the last quarter has been extremely difficult for the City players, fans, and especially for Pep Guardiola, the coach remains firm on the part that he wants to continue as the manager of Manchester City.

“I want to stay and continue at Manchester City. That’s my plan for sure”. “Am I convinced about that? Yes, yes, yes…”, told  @MovistarFutbol.

After taking over the helm in 2015, Pep Guardiola has entirely changed the outlook of the club. His winning mentality has fetched Man City several accolades, as during his reign, he has won 6 PL titles and 1 Champions League trophy. So, even if Pep Guardiola leaves Man City right now, it is safe to say that his legacy at the club will remain untouched forever.
