The heartfelt scenes highlight the personal stakes for one of football’s brightest young talents. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente included Yamal in a squad featuring eight Barcelona players and, for the first time in history, no Real Madrid representatives.
The teenager, who has overcome recent fitness concerns, is poised to play a starring role as Spain begins its World Cup campaign on June 15 against Cape Verde in a group that also includes Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
Yamal’s inclusion adds to his rapid rise, following his standout performances at Euro 2024. The family’s raw, joyful reaction has quickly gone viral, underscoring the support behind the young forward as Spain chases its first World Cup title since 2010.
