The Portuguese has firmly rejected the idea of signing Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, insisting that Real Madrid already possesses the best players.

In an interview with Spanish television programme El Chiringuito, the newly returned Real Madrid head coach was asked whether he would like to have the young Spanish international at the Bernabeu.

Mourinho replied:

“He’s a very good player but no."

The former Chelsea and Benfica manager added:

“We already have the best players.”

The Portuguese manager, who began his second spell in charge of the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners in the summer of 2026, went on to praise Yamal’s quality. He described the Barcelona forward as a great player with “incredible room for improvement” and noted that it is “not normal” for someone of his age to already be a European and world champion.

Despite this, Mourinho stressed that he would not make room for anyone in his current squad. The comments come amid the intense rivalry between Real Madrid and Hansi Flick’s Barcelona. Mourinho also spoke positively about the work being done at the Catalan club but made clear his full confidence in the players already at his disposal.
