The 37-year-old right wing Brad Marchand has been thinking of a possibility of playing for a Canadian NHL team once his contract expires at the end of the season. 

What did Brad Marchand say about playing for a Canadian NHL side?

After playing his entire career for the Boston Bruins and being drafted by them in the year 2006, the right wing was traded to the Florida Panthers at the deadline. With his current contract set to expire at the conclusion of 2024-25 season, he's set to see his name in the trade market as a free agent.

While speaking on Hockey Night in Canada with Elliotte Friedman, Marchand spoke about the possibility of playing for a Canadian NHL team. 

Anything was on the table, yeah, I mean I'm going to listen to anything we'll deal with it when the time comes and we'll see what the right fit is you.

Now featuring in the ongoing 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, Brad Marchand is focused on the present but knowns that decisions about his future are uncertain and anything can happen once the season ends. 

I mean I have over the past months, I've thought about, you know, potential situations but till you really know what options are like, it's all theoretical. Marchand said.

Marchand is totally focused on the moment and enjoying the experience of playing in the Stanley Cup Final. He even mentioned that once the playoffs end, things will happen and there will be a time and place to deal with them later. 

Brad Marchand has been on top of his game in the postseason as he has scored 4 goals and 10 assists in the 17 games that he has played. 

Brad Marchand is hated by his teammate Aaron Ekblad

Brad Marchand admitted that many of his new teammates were not happy with him joining the team after his departure from Boston Bruins. Defenseman Aaron Ekblad is one player that he has battled with in the NHL over the years.

During his interview with Elliotte Friedman, Brad Marchand was asked which player surprised him the most after he joined the Panthers and his answer was something which everybody were not prepared for. 

All of them, there's a lot of guys that I just wanted to wring their neck, you know, and you get in the room and you lie even the first time I met (Aaron) Ekblad, Marchand said.

One instance that Brad shared was when he met Ekblad after his trade, the latter walked up to him, shook his hand and said 'this is weird' before waling away. However, with time, Brad Marchand has been able to win over his new teammates at Florida Panthers. Not just this, he even mentioned that Ekblad in particular has gone from being hated to now being his best buddy in the team.
